What is Picreel

Picreel is a popup and overlay builder for website owners who already get traffic and want more of it to turn into leads, subscribers and sales. It is not a full page builder. You keep your existing site, add Picreel to it, and design the messages that appear on top: exit popups, engagement messages, overlays, survey popups and reminder bars. The company says the popup creator "takes seconds to add to your site," and that once installed you can set up popups anywhere on it. It is aimed at marketers and small online businesses, and it sits in the landing page category because its popups, forms and offers do the same job as a landing page: they ask a visitor for one action.

The about page gives the history. Picreel "was founded in 2013 by Alex Bashinsky," was acquired in 2016 by Webfolio Management, "a private equity management firm based in Reno, Nevada," and "ProProfs acquired Picreel in January 2021" as part of its family of customer support software and survey tools. ProProfs, the current owner, describes itself as hosting "more than 1,000,000 pages of content in 70+ languages," and sells related products such as BIGContacts CRM, Live Chat, Survey Maker and Qualaroo alongside Picreel.

What you build and how

Popup formats. The templates page lists the shapes you can design: lightbox, nano bar, sidebar, full-screen overlay, mobile popup and a two-button popup, plus a coupon type. You can browse templates by overlay type, by goal and by industry. The goals include promoting offers, collecting an email, collecting a phone number and reducing cart abandonment. The industries named are ecommerce, SaaS, healthcare, travel, education and finance. You can also start from scratch, and the pricing page's FAQ says you can upload your own design for free instead of using a template. The templates page promises a popup in less than 5 minutes, which is the company's own estimate.

Targeting. Campaigns can target exit intent, scroll depth, device type "and more," according to the pricing page. That is the difference between a popup tool and a banner: the message appears when a visitor is about to leave or has read a certain way down the page, rather than on every load. The home page adds that popups can be personalized with data you collected before in your own database, such as a name or an interest, and the features page lists CRM data personalization.

The form builder. The pricing page describes an advanced form builder (on Essentials and up) with custom fields, conditional logic and layout controls, so each campaign can carry a form shaped for its offer. This is the part that connects Picreel to the forms category: a popup here is often a form with a reason to fill it in.

AI features. The features page names 4 AI tools. The AI Popup Designer takes a stated goal and returns a popup "ready to go live in seconds." The AI Popup Customizer asks for your URL and pulls your logo, colors and fonts into every popup. The AI Popup Editor accepts plain-language changes, from text to CTA buttons. The AI Report Summary flags when campaigns peak or dip. The home page frames the designer as the alternative to browsing templates: no templates to browse, no design skills needed.

Testing and analytics. The features page describes testing approaches tailored to different traffic levels and a design process guided by user feedback and behavior. The home page lists reports and analytics with live stats on visits, impressions and conversions.

Integrations. The integrations page groups them by type. Popular ones include Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, a Zapier connection to "over 700 web services," and a webhook for sending leads to any custom application. The CMS group lists Drupal, Joomla, Squarespace, WordPress, Wix and Blogger. The CRM and email group adds Act-On, Campaign Monitor, VerticalResponse, Ontraport and Constant Contact. Google Analytics appears under analytics. The features page adds custom HTML forms and API connectivity, and the templates page links to a guide on adding a popup on Shopify.

What the visitor sees. The home page says popups look right on desktop and mobile views, with designs built for smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Plans, pricing and proof

The pricing page offers 4 tiers, with a monthly or annual toggle that it says saves "Up to 50%." The figures below are the monthly prices the page prints with their annual totals.

  • Free. "$0.00 forever free up to 5,000 pageviews/month," described as a "Forever FREE account with all premium features!" The page lists unlimited campaigns, unlimited popups, lead capture forms, design customization, 15+ overlay styles, A/B testing, reporting and 700+ integrations under "What's included in this price? Everything."
  • Essentials, $9.99 per month ($119.88 billed annually), 50000 pageviews a month: unlimited campaigns and popups, 1 domain, 100+ templates, the advanced form builder, a privacy policy checkbox for consent "in full compliance with privacy laws like GDPR," lightbox, nanobar, multi-screen, sidebar and video popups, targeting, reports and email notifications.
  • Business, marked "MOST POPULAR," $39.99 per month ($479.88 billed annually), 200000 pageviews a month: adds unlimited users, 5 domains, the exit intent trigger, a spin-a-wheel coupon, timer overlays, multilingual popups, advanced targeting with custom variables, geolocation targeting and branding.
  • Enterprise, "Starts at $69.99," annual plans only ($839.88 billed annually), with "Unlimited pageviews and domains," custom CSS, Shopify and WordPress, "Custom field mapping for any CRM," "API, Callbacks & Webhook," "Enterprise Security," a dedicated account manager and 24/7 support.

A white-label package is an add-on "for just $300 / year." For teams that want more than popups, a Customer Growth Suite bundles Picreel with BIGContacts CRM, help desk, knowledge base and live chat, starting at $499 a month. The FAQ also offers "a 15-day free trial," and the signup buttons say "No credit card required."

Support is "24x7 via phone, chat & email," according to the home page, and paid plans add personalized onboarding with a dedicated success manager.

The company's claims: "1,000+ Delighted Customers & 50 Million+ Leads Captured," a 4.9 rating from 600+ reviews, and "Picreel customers get a 15-300% instant increase in inbound leads & conversions." The about page says its AI-powered popups are "guaranteed to convert 25% or more of your existing site traffic," and the pricing page links to a guarantee of "Higher Sales & Conversions." The FAQ is more measured: "We have seen conversion rates of up to up to 25%, so it depends on the offer you are presenting and the goal of your campaign." It also says Picreel was tested on high-traffic websites with "zero percent slow down."

Who it suits and who it does not

Picreel suits a small store or content site that already has steady traffic and wants a simple way to catch visitors who are about to leave. The free plan is large enough for a real test on a modest site, Essentials costs $9.99 a month, and the AI designer and customizer mean you do not need a designer to get on-brand popups. A marketer who runs paid campaigns to an existing page can use exit and scroll targeting to recover some of the visitors who would otherwise bounce.

It is the wrong tool if you need to build the landing page itself. Popups are a layer on a site you already run rather than standalone hosted pages. Pageview caps drive the price: the free plan stops at 5,000 a month, Essentials at 50000 and Business at 200000, so a busy store moves up tiers as traffic grows, and an agency with many client domains will look at Business or Enterprise, plus the white-label add-on. Picreel collects the lead, which then travels onward to Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Constant Contact and other tools through its native, Zapier and webhook integrations.
