Qualaroo

Tap a star to rate

Qualaroo is a feedback tool that puts short surveys, which it calls Nudges, in front of people while they use your website or app. It suits product, marketing and growth teams that want answers from real visitors at the moment of a decision, without emailing them later. The company is now part of ProProfs, and its pages list the ProProfs Survey Maker as a sister product. The same product also covers forms and email-style surveys, so a reader who arrives from a forms page lands on the same entry as one looking for in-app surveys.

What you build and how

The core object is the Nudge: a survey that appears on a page or inside an app and asks a specific visitor a specific question. The company's pages describe asking people "while they experience your site or app" and targeting by time on page, current or past behavior, cookies and more. The pitch is to ask without emailing, irritating or annoying anyone. You install a lightweight JavaScript snippet once, and the site states that it will not slow page load and works across domains. Its about page repeats the idea as "Install once, never slow down a page", and the pricing page says your team can test and gather insights anywhere on the site with no developer assistance needed.

You build the questions from professional templates rather than starting from scratch. The home page names question formats such as rating scales, text inputs and multiple choice, and it lists question and decision branching, so a follow-up appears only for people who gave a particular answer. A branding and customization feature lets you match a survey to your own look, and a Design API is mentioned for positioning a Nudge. The solutions pages also list A/B testing, a prototype testing feature for gathering feedback at each stage of a design, and exit-intent surveys to catch people on their way out.

Targeting goes further with the Identify API, which the company describes as tying feedback to known users so you can target by plan, value or any trait. That turns anonymous feedback into something you can follow up on. Alongside the surveys sit heatmaps and session replay, which let you watch users click, scroll and drop off, then ask why at that exact point.

For apps, the features page describes native iOS and Android SDKs for creating, designing and targeting surveys inside a mobile app. It claims Nudges are timed and mobile optimized, never slow your app, and reach response rates of 10 to 30 percent or higher. A separate guide page says its question sets have received over 120 million responses so far.

Answers come back to a reporting layer with some analysis built in. The company says IBM Watson sentiment analysis categorizes question results for you, a wordcloud surfaces key ideas from free-form answers, new responses are highlighted, and you can mark responses as favorites to revisit and filter by them. Responses can be exported as CSV or Excel files for your own analysis, and basic integrations sync survey responses and leads into Mailchimp, Vertical Response and other email tools.

The forms question is answered directly on the home page: Qualaroo "can handle forms and email-style surveys too, especially when you want targeted questions with logic and segmentation." The solutions menu lists Email Surveys & Web Form as its own feature. So a team that wants a short on-page form, or a survey sent by email, can build it in the same tool as its in-app surveys.

The solutions pages group the product by job: collect website feedback, launch survey campaigns, capture UX insights, request product feedback, survey mobile and app users, and measure Net Promoter Score. They also group it by outcome, such as improving customer experience, boosting SaaS conversions, enhancing marketing efforts, increasing e-commerce sales and growing website leads. 2 suites, the Customer Delight Suite and the Customer Growth Suite, bundle some of these.

What the pages state

The pricing page lists 2 plans. The Free plan is described as "50 responses/forever free" and includes 500 email sends and 10k pageviews. The Business plan is described as "For established businesses & enterprises," and the page asks "Need 100+ monthly responses?" and points to it. No Business price appears on the pricing page. Questions are routed to a demo.

Under the heading "What's included in this price?" the page answers "Everything." It lists unlimited Nudges and surveys running in-app, on your website and by email, the Identify API, heatmaps and session replay, basic integrations, and data export to CSV or Excel. A line elsewhere adds that you can run surveys across multiple websites, subdomains and regions within one account, with centralized control and unified reporting.

Payment is by Visa, MasterCard or American Express, and the page says PayPal is not accepted. For purchases over $3,000 the company can also take ACH bank transfers or check payments, each with an additional processing fee of $100, and it gives sales@proprofs.com for details.

On compliance, the home page carries a "GDPR Compliant" item, "Committed to protecting your data and respecting your privacy." It names no other standard. On history, the about page says Qualaroo announced Qualaroo for Mobile Web in 2013, was acquired by Scaleworks in 2016, and that Scaleworks "has $140M in capital commitments." ProProfs hosts "more than 1,000,000 pages of content in 70+ languages." Support runs through a help center, a ticket form, support@proprofs.com and the phone number (855) 776-7763. Developer resources include API docs and SDK docs, and the site publishes comparison pages against Hotjar, Qualtrics, Usabilla, Lucky Orange and VWO.

Who it suits and who it does not

Qualaroo fits a team with a live website or app that wants to hear from visitors in context. A SaaS product team can ask trial users why they have not upgraded. A marketing team can run an exit-intent survey on a key page and send responses to Mailchimp. An e-commerce or lead-generation site can ask visitors what is stopping them. A company with many sites can run all of them from one account.

It has limits. The free plan stops at 50 responses, and the pricing page points anyone needing 100 or more monthly responses to the Business plan, whose price you have to ask about. The pages name only a few integrations, Mailchimp and Vertical Response, so a team that needs responses flowing into other systems should check the integrations list or plan to use the API. It is built for short, contextual questions on digital products, not for long research instruments.
