What the product is

The Knot's wedding website tool is a template-based site builder for engaged couples, and it sits inside The Knot, a wedding planning platform the company describes as free and as having helped more than 30 million couples. It is not a general website builder. You pick a design, fill in your names, date and location, and share one link with your guests. The company's wording is that a free wedding website gives you "a central place for all the info you'd like your guests to know about your wedding", and the pages place it next to the rest of the platform: a checklist, a registry, invitations and paper, and a directory of wedding vendors. The pages do not say where the company is based.

What you build and how

The editor is template-first. The company says its free website templates come in "100+ designs", and that most of them have coordinating wedding invitations, save the dates, place cards, thank you cards and more, so the website and the paper goods can share one look. You choose a design and then start plugging in information. A couple quoted on the page says they chose the design they wanted and were done within about half an hour.

What goes on the site is a wedding's usual content. The page suggests starting with your names, your wedding date and location, then adding your registry and RSVPs so guests can shop for gifts and give information such as dietary restrictions right from the site. It describes 3 jobs the site does for you:

  • Share event details. Start with the when and where, then set up RSVPs and add registry gifts for guests to shop.
  • Tell your love story. Share engagement photos and set the tone for the wedding with the story of how you met.
  • Send quick reminders. Message templates get guests to RSVP and link to your website's RSVP page.

The data layer is not something you manage. RSVPs collected through the site feed the planning tools: a quoted couple says they can easily check RSVPs as they come in, and the company says the websites integrate with The Knot mobile app and with free planning tools such as its guest list manager and its message templates, which help you stay organized, track RSVPs and keep guests up to date. The registry is described on the home page as adding no-fee cash funds and gifts from any store. Logic and automation in the usual sense are absent; the closest thing is the reminder messaging tied to the RSVP page. The pages mention no code editor and no API.

For the guest, the experience is a single link. Guests open the page, read the details, RSVP and, if you have set one up, go to the registry. A second quoted couple, from Spring Hill, TN, calls it "the perfect hub to send all our guests to" and says guests could RSVP right on the site.

On addresses, the company offers 2 routes. You can customize your wedding website link on theknot.com for free. If you want your own domain, you can buy one through The Knot for $19.99 for 1 year or $39.98 for 2 years, and the company says it handles the purchase, domain registration and setup while you own the domain.

Around the site builder sits the rest of the platform. The home page lists free tools: a checklist that keeps every detail organized by month, a registry, invites and paper (it offers 3 free paper samples and a stationery shop), and the wedding website as "one spot for RSVPs, gifts and wedding details". There is a vendor directory, which the company describes as nearly 175,000 top-rated wedding vendors across 20 categories, backed by 4 million couple reviews, with search by category and location. Listed categories include photographers, DJs, beauty, florists, wedding dresses and wedding rings, and the page carries browse lists for venues by state and for planners and videographers in popular cities. The home page also has a "Find a couple" search. The company also promotes a mobile app, calling it the wedding planning app with the most 5-star reviews.

The evidence from the pages

Pricing is short. Creating a website on The Knot is free. A custom domain costs $19.99 for 1 year or $39.98 for 2 years, and the page states that if you do not want to pay you can still customize your link on theknot.com at no cost. The pages do not describe paid website tiers, usage limits on guests or RSVPs, or a template limit.

The product claims on the pages are these. The company says the platform has helped more than 30 million couples. It counts 100+ website designs. It describes the vendor directory at nearly 175,000 vendors, 20 categories and 4 million couple reviews. The home page also carries couple testimonials dated between December 2023 and April 2026, which describe finding vendors, tracking gifts and creating a website in one place; one reads simply "Free!!! Very helpful every step of the way and extremely user friendly."

Two longer quotes on the website page show the intended experience. Rachel and Edward of Sisterville, WV say: "I was a little nervous at the thought of having to actually set up a full website, but it was so easy. I simply chose the design I wanted, then started plugging in information. Within about half an hour, I was done!" Megan and Witt of Spring Hill, TN say their site "was incredibly easy and fast to set up."

The pages state no security, compliance or accessibility claims, and say nothing about export, self-hosting or open source. The company points couples to a Help Center for questions.

Who it suits and who it does not

This is for couples who want a polished wedding site without design work and are happy to stay inside one platform. It suits anyone who already uses The Knot for the checklist, registry or vendor search, because RSVPs, gifts and reminders connect to those tools. The free route covers the whole build, so the only possible cost on the pages is the optional custom domain.

It suits less well anyone who wants a site that looks nothing like a template, wants to move the site elsewhere, or needs to build something other than a wedding website. The pages describe a wedding-only tool and mention no code access, no data export and no way to run a second event. Couples who care about a fully custom domain should note that the free link lives on theknot.com.
