What it is

Wix is a website builder for anyone who wants a site without writing code, and it also runs online stores on the same platform. The company's own description is "an intuitive website builder that combines vibe coding with freeform drag and drop, and ready-to-use business solutions". Its about page says it was founded in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami and Giora Kaplan, who found that building their own site was "difficult, frustrating and very costly", and that the company now reports over 300 million users worldwide. The reader it serves ranges from a founder with a first landing page to a shop owner and a small business that wants booking, email and marketing next to the site. A separate product, Wix Studio, covers agencies and developers who write JavaScript and use npm packages, and it is not covered here.

What you build and how

There are several ways to start. The home page says Wix is "an intuitive no-code website builder with a few ways to create your own website", and the history on the about page marks two AI milestones. In 2024 the company launched an AI website builder that produces a complete site through a conversation, and in 2026 it launched Wix Harmony, described as an agentic AI website builder. The product menu lists Website Builder, AI Website Builder, Website Templates, a Landing Page Builder and a Mobile App Builder, along with Base44 solutions, so one account reaches several kinds of output.

Templates are the conventional route. The page promises "a large selection tailored to your industry" and the menu groups sites by purpose: business website, online store, portfolio and blog. You pick a template, then edit it with freeform drag and drop. The AI tools the company describes "help with content, images and business insights, not just design", which means the assistant is meant for more than a first layout.

The data and logic layer is the business software around the site. The home page lists built-in solutions such as eCommerce, scheduling and marketing tools, and the product menu adds Point of Sale, Online Booking, Business Email and Logo Maker, plus Domain Registration and Web Hosting. A recent newsroom item says Wix integrated with Google Ads so users can create and manage paid campaigns directly from the platform. So a service business can sell appointments, a shop can sell goods and a creator can publish a blog from the same dashboard.

Integrations come through the Wix App Market, which the company says holds "hundreds of Wix-made and 3rd party apps", including Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel and Zapier. Zapier is the bridge to outside automation, but the pages do not describe a native workflow builder. For custom backends, the about page notes that Wix launched Wix Headless, which opens its business backend to any tech stack, and the separate Studio product adds code-level tools.

Publishing is built in, with the domain registration and web hosting entries in the product menu. Hosting is free: "up to 500MB of storage and up to 1GB bandwidth with all plans", with select Premium plans adding unlimited bandwidth, more storage and a free domain for the first year. The home page also lists "reliable hosting, data encryption and 24/7 customer care" under security and support.

When a user wants help, the Wix Marketplace lists experts in web design, web development, database setup and integrations, marketing and SEO, and eCommerce websites. The company says a builder costs "significantly less than hiring a developer", and offers hiring a pro as an add-on. For search, the SEO learning page runs webinars, including one on SEO and GEO on Wix, and a podcast called SERP's Up.

Plans, limits and claims

The site draws a clear line between building and publishing. The plans page says "Creating your own website is free". A Premium plan lets you connect your own domain and remove Wix branding. Most Premium plans include a 1-year free domain voucher, valid only with a purchase of a new domain from Wix and not for renewing a domain you own. You can try any Premium plan and cancel within 14 days for a full refund, which applies to the first upgrade. For best value the company recommends yearly or multi-year plans.

For stores, the eCommerce page says "Building an eCommerce website on Wix is free", but accepting payments needs a paid subscription. It lists annual eCommerce plans ranging from $29/month for basic eCommerce to $159/month for more advanced capabilities. All plans come with free hosting, a free new domain for one year, the drag-and-drop editor, built-in features for online operations and marketing, and 24/7 customer care. The same page states prices are current as of November 2025 and reflect US pricing, excluding taxes. Elsewhere on that page, a general comparison says Wix eCommerce plans range from $27 to $159 a month, and that building and maintaining a custom eCommerce site can cost from an estimated $1,000 to over $10,000. Treat $29 as the starting figure the plan answer gives and confirm on the plans page.

The about page reports 250 million users at an earlier milestone and over 300 million users now. The pages do not name compliance certifications, and they state no limit on the number of products or pages. Support is stated as 24/7 customer care, and the plans page offers a call with a Customer Care Expert.

Who it suits

Wix suits a solo founder or small business that wants one place for the site, the domain, hosting, a store, bookings and email, and wants to start free and pay once the site goes live. An agency building small sites for clients can use the templates and the Marketplace experts, and a store owner gets selling features in the plan price. The AI builder helps someone who would rather describe a site than lay it out.

There are caveats. The free tier is for building and trying, and a custom domain or removal of Wix branding needs a Premium plan. Selling needs a paid plan, and the $29 to $159 range is the published span. The domain voucher is limited to a new domain bought from Wix. Zapier and the App Market extend the platform, but a team that needs a self-hosted setup or code export will not find that offered on these pages, and a team that wants deep custom logic is pointed to Wix Studio or Wix Headless.
