What it is

Joy is a wedding website builder for couples, with the site, guest list, RSVPs, invitations and registry in one account. The company's home page calls it "Free Wedding Websites, Registry, RSVP & Planning". It is built for a couple planning their own wedding, not for a developer or an agency. The pages do not say where the company is based.

What you build and how

You build the site by choosing a design and filling in sections. The site's FAQ says Joy "provides extensive customization options": you can choose from various templates, customize colors and fonts, and switch layouts at any time, with a preview on desktop and mobile. Sections cover the basics a guest looks for, such as the story, event information, travel details and photos. The FAQ lists what a good wedding site should include: an online RSVP system, date, time and location, event schedules, engagement photos and registry details, with a love story and FAQs as personal touches.

The structure is flexible. You can remove any function that does not apply. Without a wedding party or a countdown, you delete the section from your dashboard and it disappears from the website and the app. You can also create custom pages, and the FAQ says you can adapt a site for other events such as anniversaries and birthday parties.

Guest handling is where the product differs from a plain site builder. You can edit schedule visibility so only particular events and their details show to particular guests, for example the wedding party and the rehearsal dinner, and each guest who receives an invitation sees a personalized version of the site with the schedule and pages they are allowed to see. Privacy options include password protection on specific pages or the whole site and a control over whether the event appears in search results. Because the site can go live in stages, you can put TBD where a detail is unresolved. Guests are not notified of edits automatically, but you can email them from the platform.

RSVP and the guest list sit in the same account. The home page describes Smart RSVP as letting you "Ask any question and track every answer", and a Guest List tool that organizes and tracks details from a free planning hub. A Contact Collector gives you a "magic link" to share, and guests fill in a form that updates their info on your guest list automatically. Save the Dates and Invitations come in "hundreds" of designs, which you can send free online or order as matching prints; premium paid designs also exist.

Travel and logistics features include a travel recommendations section for hotel blocks, airport details, transit schedules and shuttle information. Google Maps is integrated into the schedule for driving directions, and guests can hail an Uber or Lyft from the app. Hotel Room Blocks let you block discounted rooms near the venue for guests with no credit card required from you, and the page says this can save guests up to 30% on rooms.

The guest mobile app is the other half of the product. Your website comes with a companion app so guests can stay informed on the go. You can use the website without sharing the app download links, but guests need the app to upload photos. The photo feature creates a shared album where guests add pictures before, during and after the wedding. Photos are arranged into a collage, can run as a real-time slideshow at the reception and are stored in high resolution for download.

For custom addresses, you can buy a domain from Joy or use one you own and set it to forward to your withjoy.com URL. Joy accounts are created with an email or a Facebook login. The site is offered in American, British, Australian, Canadian and Singaporean English, plus Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano and Japanese.

Plans, limits and claims

The cost statements are direct. The FAQ says your wedding website is "completely free", including RSVP tools, templates and hosting, and that Joy wedding websites, planning tools and registry are free. Online Save the Dates and invitations have hundreds of free designs and also premium paid ones. A custom domain from a domain provider typically costs between $20 and $40 a year, according to the FAQ, which is separate from the free site.

The registry side is part of the wider offer: an all-in-one registry with gifts, "Zero-Fee Cash Funds" and honeymoon funds, a registry store and a Joy Baby registry, which the company says has "smart, time-saving features no other registry has". Beyond the tools, the site carries wedding guides and ideas, a wedding glossary, FAQs and a help and support section covering the website, registry, guest list, Save the Dates and invitations. The home page also quotes a reviewer calling the product a place to organize every wedding detail. A listed promotion offers up to 25% off Save the Dates and Invitations, which is a seasonal offer rather than a plan price.

The company advises creating the site once the date and venue are set, which it says typically means 6-8 months before the wedding. It states that its support team works around the clock. The pages give no user count, no stated hosting region and no compliance claims.

Who it suits

Joy suits couples who want a good-looking wedding site without paying for a builder and who care about the guest side: private schedules for different groups, RSVP questions beyond attendance, travel details and a place for guests to share photos. A couple with out-of-town guests will use the hotel blocks and travel sections most. The guest list, RSVP answers and site live under one login.

It is a narrow tool by design. The site, templates and features are written around weddings, with a baby registry as the only other category on the home page, so a general business or portfolio site is out of scope. The FAQ mentions adapting a site for anniversaries and birthdays, but the product is organized around the wedding workflow. The pages also mention no code export, API or integrations beyond Google Maps, Uber and Lyft, so a couple who wants to connect other tools should not expect to. Guests who want to upload photos must install the app, which adds a step for them.
