What Butternut AI is

Butternut AI is an AI website builder. You type your business name and a short description, and it generates a complete website, hosted and secured, ready to publish. It is written for owners with no design or coding background: the FAQ says "No coding or design experience is required" and that the product is "designed to be user-friendly for everyone, regardless of technical skill level." The homepage tells visitors to "Skip freelancers. Fire your agency.", which sets the audience as founders, freelancers and small businesses that would otherwise pay someone to build a site. A separate AI Portfolio Builder serves creatives, designers, photographers, artists, writers and developers.

The homepage counters say the product has generated 500,000+ websites, serves 200+ industries and launches 1,000+ new websites every week. Those are the company's own counts.

What you build and how

Generation. The form on the homepage asks for a business name, a business description, a website language and an optional design style. The language list is long, running from English, Spanish and French to Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Vietnamese, Thai and Hebrew. The design styles are Modern, Dark, Light, Bold, Minimal, Pastel, Corporate, Retro, Playful and Illustration, or Auto. Example descriptions on the page cover a dental clinic, a coffee roastery, an interior design studio, a fitness studio and a law firm. The headline promises "Build your website in 20 seconds with AI," and the company calls it "100x Faster Than Any Tool." The FAQ says the AI model "is trained on millions of websites" and works out "the business category and target demographic based on keywords."

Editing. After generation you "Tweak colors, add videos, change copy or insert pages." You can upload your own images, or click regenerate and enter keywords to get better ones, and you can write your own text or regenerate the AI's copy. The Starter plan lists unlimited edits and customizations, unlimited pages, "20 million stock and AI images" and the option to "Embed custom code," so a section the editor cannot make can be added by hand.

Publishing. "When you're ready, hit 'Publish'. We handle everything: domain linking, SSL, hosting, and security." Hosting and SSL are included in paid plans, along with backups and maintenance, and you get a custom domain free for the first year. You can also link a domain you already own after upgrading.

SEO and blogging. "We handle all your SEO. From meta tags to sitemaps, your site is fully optimized to rank." A built-in AI blog tool "turns your ideas into full blog posts in seconds." Google Analytics can be connected, and the Pro plan adds a personalized SEO guide.

Chatbot and social agents. An AI chatbot can be added "in 1-click"; it "answers questions, captures leads, and works 24/7." On Pro this becomes a "Custom AI chatbot trained on your data", with a WhatsApp integration so leads arrive on WhatsApp. The product menu also lists Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram agents, and a company blog post describes "built-in social media marketing agents, AI blog generation, and one-click publishing."

Selling. The FAQ says you can "sell products, accept payments through Stripe or PayPal, and even offer subscriptions or digital services." The Starter plan lists selling "products, courses and services" and accepting payments through "PayPal, Stripe & more." The homepage feature table adds forms and lead capture, courses and digital products, security updates and mobile optimization to what the product covers.

The industry pages in the footer show who builds with it: law firms, real estate, restaurants, consultants, dentists, plumbers, hair salons, AI consultants, cleaning services and therapists.

What the pages state about plans and limits

"Start for free. Choose a plan whenever you're ready," the pricing section says, and the generator button reads "Try for Free" with "No Credit Card Required." The FAQ says you should get a paid plan once you are ready to link your domain to your generated website. There are Business Website Plans and Portfolio Website Plans, monthly or yearly, and paying yearly saves 25%.

  • Starter, $20 a month. "Must-have features for business owners": 1 custom domain, unlimited edits and pages, hosting with 10 GB, free SSL, security, backups and maintenance, automated SEO, 100 AI credits per month, Google Analytics, custom code embeds, selling and payments, customer support and a free custom domain for the first year. The plan card calls it "Perfect for freelancers, founders, and small businesses."
  • Pro, $69 a month, marked Most Popular. Everything in Starter plus 2 custom domains, the custom AI chatbot trained on your data, the WhatsApp integration, 300 AI credits per month, 200 GB hosting, early access to new AI features "2 weeks ahead", the personalized SEO guide, growth webinars and masterclasses, a 1:1 onboarding call and priority support.

The FAQ says there are "no limitations on the number of websites you can create," but each plan covers a set number of custom domains, and "If you want to make multiple websites, you can subscribe to multiple plans." You can cancel at any time. The homepage feature table sets Butternut's $20/month against $1100/month for buying hosting, SSL, SEO tools, a blog generator, a chatbot, forms, courses, a developer and maintenance separately, a company claim of "$1080/month" saved. A Hire Professional service, live webinars, tutorials and an affiliate program appear in the footer, and support is reachable by email.

Who it suits and who it does not

Butternut AI suits a founder, freelancer or small business owner who wants a live site fast and does not want to assemble hosting, SSL, a blog, a chatbot and forms separately. A coach, a dentist, a plumber or a portfolio owner can describe the business, adjust the result and publish on their own domain the same day, and the free start means the draft costs nothing until it goes live. The Pro plan's chatbot and WhatsApp lead capture suit a consultant or growing business that wants more automation.

It is a less natural fit for a team that wants to design every section by hand, since the workflow starts from an AI draft and custom code is the fallback. As a caveat, an agency running many client sites pays per plan, because each plan covers a fixed number of custom domains.
