What Bootstrap Studio is

Bootstrap Studio is a visual website builder that runs as an application on your own computer. Its homepage calls it "a revolutionary website builder for designing web pages and apps visually. No code required," and says it "runs locally on your computer and you can use it as much as you wish." It is aimed at people who want to design real sites by dragging components around: freelancers, designers, students, small agencies, and developers who would rather start from a visual layout than an empty code editor. The homepage claims "10k+ Happy Users" and a 4.9 rating, and says the app is "used and loved by thousands of designers, developers and students from across the world." The company behind it is named in the site footer as Zine EOOD. The app runs on Windows 10 and later, macOS and Linux, and the homepage shows version 8.0.1 as the latest release.

What you build and how

The editor. The docs describe an app "built around visual editing." You build a page by dragging components onto it, selecting them and changing their styling. The window has named areas. The Component panel holds everything you can drop in, with Studio and Online tabs. The Overview panel lists every component on the page and lets you drag to reorder. The Editor panel has HTML and Styles tabs and can be detached as its own window. The Design panel holds your pages, CSS and SASS files and images. The Options panel shows the settings of whatever is selected. The Stage is the preview where you drop components and edit text.

Components and templates. The homepage says the app comes with "a large number of components like headers, footers, galleries, slideshows and many more," and that you can make your own components and add them to the library. It also advertises a "rich library of templates" you customize with visual controls. A separate templates page sells themes made for the app, each with multiple pages and widgets, and each "can be used in an unlimited number of websites." They range from marketing and SaaS looks to a portfolio, a media and blog theme and an "App Toolkit" for dashboards and admin panels.

Fonts, icons and animation. The editor has a built-in Google Fonts integration and several vector icon libraries. You can add CSS animations triggered on scroll or hover, and the homepage says it supports Lottie, parallax backgrounds and custom CSS keyframe animations.

Bootstrap underneath. Pages are built on the Bootstrap framework, and the homepage says "Bootstrap 3, Bootstrap 4 and Bootstrap 5 are fully supported," with access to all Bootstrap components and options. It also says the app handles SEO automatically, "from the structure of your pages, to meta tags, sitemaps and structured data embeds," and that the sites are fully responsive. A Realtime Preview opens the design in several browsers and devices at once and shows each change instantly. If you already have a site, you can import it by dragging its HTML, CSS, JS files and images into a project.

Blogs and ecommerce. According to the homepage, "advanced blog and ecommerce components" help you build content-heavy sites and "full online stores," all "with no need for a CMS like WordPress." The navigation also lists an Ecommerce page, and on the pricing table "Build ecommerce stores" is a feature of the Lifetime edition.

Forms. Smart Forms is the form backend. You design contact forms, surveys and order forms by drag and drop, switch on Smart Forms, and submissions arrive as email messages. The forms page says they support "all HTML inputs," including file attachments, work with any email client, run over HTTPS and use Google's reCAPTCHA against spam. Configuring one "takes less then a minute," and the page says there are no monthly fees.

Apps. The App Gallery is a set of free, editable apps you download into Bootstrap Studio and export as working sites. The list includes a T-Shirt Maker that delivers orders as an email, Filterable Reviews, a Before And After slider, an Appointment Form, a Customer Feedback survey, an Event Schedule calendar, a Food Delivery Menu, a Quiz, Recipe Search, a Restaurant Menu, a Store Selector map, a Story Book and a Survey app. Several of these deliver submissions by email.

AI. The homepage describes an AI Assistant that "can do any edit, build entire websites and apps, redesign pages and more," with "Unlimited use with your own API key." So the app does not meter AI use itself; the key, and whatever its provider charges, are yours.

Publishing and export. The homepage says you can "publish your design online with a single click via SFTP to any server," and that buyers get "5 free slots on our next gen hosting platform with full HTTPS, custom domains and passkeys" (the menu calls this the Sites Platform). Academy copy says you learn to "publish your site online with a single click." You can also export the finished design "as a folder with regular HTML, CSS, JS and image files." The docs say that code is clean and well structured and "looks as if a professional front end developer had written it by hand." Because the output is plain files, hosting is your choice. For people who like code, the homepage describes a VS Code-like editor with full SASS, JavaScript, JSON and HTML editing.

Safety net. The docs describe automatic backups, by default every 5 minutes, so a crash costs little work.

Learning. Bootstrap Studio Academy has 12 videos in its Basics course, from an app window tour and basic editing through responsive design, navigation, images and icons, preview, publish and export, plus 9 Advanced videos. The docs, a forum and a bug report link are in the footer.

What the pages say about price and licensing

Bootstrap Studio is sold as a one-time purchase. The homepage says "There are no monthly payments, usage limits or ongoing fees. You buy it once and own it forever," and calls it "an asset, not an expense." There are 2 editions.

Standard, $29 USD. For "developers, designers and individuals with interest in web development." It runs on Windows 10 and later, macOS and Linux, can be installed on all your computers, and includes free web hosting and Smart Forms for 1 year plus 1 year of free upgrades. A limited-time offer adds one premium template.

Lifetime, $59 USD. Everything in Standard, plus free web hosting and Smart Forms "for life", the ability to build ecommerce stores, and "Free upgrades forever!" A limited-time offer adds 2 premium templates.

Both editions carry a "30 day refund policy". After purchase the company e-mails a download link. The forms page says Smart Forms are "included for free with your Bootstrap Studio license" with "no additional costs or monthly fees", within the hosting and forms term of your edition.

Templates are also sold separately. The templates page lists themes priced from $15 to $49, and says each can be used in an unlimited number of websites. The App Gallery apps are described as free.

On privacy, the homepage headline is "GDPR and Privacy Friendly": the app works fully offline, stores projects as bsdesign files on your computer, and exports static HTML with local assets that can be hosted anywhere. The homepage also shows a wall of user comments, such as "Best money I ever spent on a piece of software."

Who it suits and who it does not

Bootstrap Studio suits a freelancer or small agency delivering brochure sites, portfolios, landing pages and content sites to clients, who wants clean files that can go on any host; the homepage has a section titled "Freelancers Welcome" for exactly that. It also suits a developer who likes visual layout but wants an escape hatch, since the export is ordinary HTML, CSS and JS and the code editor is built in. A solo founder with a simple marketing site can get a long way with the templates, Smart Forms and the bundled hosting slots, at a one-time price.

The limits follow from the design. It is a front-end design tool: forms deliver submissions by email, and the pages describe no built-in database, user login or server-side logic, so a membership site or a data-driven app means adding your own backend. It is a desktop application that keeps projects as files on your computer, so a team works by passing project files around. Store building needs the Lifetime edition, and on Standard the bundled hosting and Smart Forms run for 1 year.
