What the product is

OpnForm is an open-source form builder for teams and enterprises that want control over where their data lives. The company's homepage describes it as "fully open-source and built for privacy-first organizations", and says you can use its EU-based cloud, hosting in France, or deploy it on-premise. It suits a small team collecting sign-ups, an operations group building internal request forms, and an IT department that needs SSO and self-hosting before it will approve a form tool. The pages do not say where the company is based.

What you build and how

You build forms, surveys and internal workflows in a visual form builder, with no code required. The homepage runs a live demo, "a short demo form with prefilled answers, a rating, text fields, and conditional logic", so those are the building blocks you can expect: text fields, ratings, prefilled answers and branching based on earlier answers.

The template gallery is organized by form type and by industry. Types include order forms, registration forms, event registration, payment forms, application forms, file upload forms, booking forms, survey templates, consent forms, RSVP forms, appointment forms and contact forms. Further types run from calculation forms and checklists to donation forms, quizzes, polls, petitions, wedding forms and volunteer forms. Industries include banking, charity, church, education, e-commerce, healthcare, human resources, insurance, real estate, salons and veterinary services. That spread tells you the product is meant for general-purpose data collection, not only lead capture.

Publishing is flexible. The homepage lists embedding forms on your website or app, adding forms directly into Notion, using your own custom domain, and generating QR codes for offline collection. In the comparison with Tally, custom domains and branding are marked as a Pro+ feature, so plan on a paid tier if forms need to live on your own URL.

The integrations page covers the notifications most teams reach for first. Email integration sends an alert when a form is submitted, with customizable notifications and multi-recipient support. Slack integration posts form alerts to a channel you choose, after you authorize your workspace. A Discord notification integration works the same way. A webhook integration sends submissions to an endpoint you enter, with field mapping and configurable triggers, which is the route into your own systems or an automation tool. The site's Developers menu also lists "MCP for AI agents", alongside open-source, self-hosting and documentation links, though the page does not explain what the MCP option does.

On the developer side, the pricing FAQ says OpnForm has an API and API access tokens, available on the Free plan, with higher tiers adding more advanced capabilities. The Tally comparison describes this as "Full API, webhooks, and automation support" and "Developer-friendly workflows". Because the code is open, the same page pitches the option to "Extend and adapt OpnForm's codebase".

Collaboration is built in. The FAQ states that multi-user collaboration is supported, and that higher tiers add roles and permissions for larger teams. The Enterprise page describes multi-user workspaces with roles, permissions and audit visibility.

For the open-source-low-code reader, the pitch is straightforward. The homepage lists "100% open-source & auditable", "Self-hosting / on-premise deployments" and "SSO & SAML support" as benefits. A team that wants a no-code form tool but will not put respondent data into a vendor's cloud can run the core app itself, and a developer can read exactly what it does.

What the pages state about plans, hosting and support

The pricing page publishes no prices in its FAQ and headline text, but it does state several terms plainly. The headline is "Start free with unlimited submissions", with the tags "Free forever", "No per-response fees" and "Fair pricing for growing teams". The homepage hero repeats it as "Unlimited responses" without "response caps or platform lock-in". Plan names beyond Free are not shown, though the Tally comparison uses the label "Pro+" for features such as custom domains and advanced analytics.

The FAQ answers the questions a buyer asks. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal, and the subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and changes apply immediately with billing adjusting accordingly. On refunds: "Refunds are handled case-by-case." On trials: "We don't currently offer an automated trial, but you can contact us if you'd like to evaluate a paid plan for your team." On self-hosting, the FAQ says it "includes the core OpnForm app and lets you run it on your own infrastructure", and that some hosted-only services, like managed billing, may not apply.

The Enterprise page covers the governance questions. Hosted OpnForm data is stored in France, and you can also self-host when you need direct control over infrastructure and data residency. SSO is supported through options such as OIDC, with Enterprise SSO controls such as SAML depending on your setup and plan. Enterprise includes priority support for rollout, migration and self-hosting needs. A Book a Demo button is the route to a quote. The homepage lists "EU hosting & GDPR-friendly architecture" among its open-source benefits. It names no SOC 2, HIPAA or other security certification, so a team that needs one has to ask.

On scale, the homepage shows "10k+ Companies" and "3k+ GitHub Stars". These are the company's own figures. A Help Center, documentation, a changelog and a feedback page are linked from the footer, and the footer's Comparisons section sets OpnForm against Google Forms, Typeform, Fillout, Jotform, Tally, Youform, HeyForm, Form.io, Formbricks and 123FormBuilder.

The Tally comparison table also tells you how the company splits free and paid. API plus webhooks are marked as included. Native integrations are "Basic included; advanced paid". Custom domains and advanced analytics are Pro+.

Who it suits and where it falls short

OpnForm fits teams that treat form data as something they must keep control of: European organizations that want hosting in France, public-sector or regulated teams that need self-hosting, and developers who want to inspect and adapt the code. It also suits anyone who has been burned by per-response pricing, since the free plan carries unlimited submissions and the site says there are no per-response fees. An IT team will like the SSO, roles and audit visibility on the Enterprise page.

It is a weaker fit for a solo founder who wants a form live in five minutes with no thought about hosting. Self-hosting means you run the infrastructure, and the FAQ notes that hosted-only services may not carry over. Several useful features sit above the free tier, including custom domains, advanced analytics and advanced integrations, and the pricing text does not state what those paid plans cost. Anyone who needs a specific compliance certificate should confirm it with the company first, because the pages name GDPR-friendly architecture and nothing else.
