What it is
Spectra is a page builder for WordPress that works inside the default WordPress block editor rather than replacing it. The company's About page describes a page builder built to work on the default WordPress editor, and the site's description names it "a flagship product of Brainstorm Force," the people behind the Astra theme and a range of other WordPress plugins. The About page says the team has 13+ years in WordPress development and digital marketing and earlier built the Ultimate Addons for WPBakery Page Builder, Beaver Builder and Elementor.
It is aimed at three kinds of builders the home page names directly: freelancers, agencies and entrepreneurs, plus web designers, developers and marketers. The free Spectra plugin is the core; Spectra Pro is a paid add-on that, in the pricing FAQ's words, requires "the latest version of the Spectra block builder plugin" installed on the site. A separate AI assistant, ZipAI, builds pages and whole sites out of Spectra blocks.
What you build and how
The editor. You build WordPress pages and sites by dragging blocks onto the page in the block editor, with no coding required. The visual builder page describes a live editor where you "tweak everything in real time so you can see changes instantly," with control over layouts, typography, colors and spacing. Flex and grid layouts handle structure, and a "Place any block exactly where you want it" feature covers block positioning. Copy-and-paste styles let you share a block's design across pages or whole sites, and one-click block presets give starting points.
Design system. Spectra Global Styles sets colors, typography and spacing once and applies them site-wide, so every block, class and component stays in sync. Fonts can be managed in one place, and the company says Spectra can install Google Fonts on your own host so they load faster. The same home page says this "helps GDPR compliance by installing Google fonts locally to avoid data-sharing."
Responsive control. Pages adapt across desktop, tablet and mobile, and you can show or hide content per device and customize elements for every screen size. The free-versus-Pro table lists Responsive Conditions and Display Conditions among the features.
Templates. The visual builder page promises "Hundreds of Free Templates" plus professionally designed patterns, pages and kits for every niche. The home page describes a 3-step flow: choose a pattern, page or kit, personalize colors, fonts, layouts and content, then publish. On the pricing page, the paid toolkits add premium Starter Templates with 300+ content-ready sites across dozens of niches; premium patterns and kits require the Essential Toolkit add-on or a higher plan.
Dynamic content and logic. This is where Spectra goes beyond static pages. The Loop Builder creates dynamic post grids, masonry layouts and carousels, with filters, layouts and post types you set, for categories, posts, products and other repeating content. Dynamic Content pulls data from ACF, Pods and Meta Box into your pages. The Popup Builder makes sitewide popups that show on any page according to the triggers and display rules you set. Other Pro blocks include a countdown timer, user login and registration forms for building communities, modals, image sliders, a mega menu, an SVG animator, image masking, motion effects and scroll-based entrance animations.
Code when you want it. The home page says Spectra offers "Customizable HTML, CSS, JavaScript and APIs for total control," so a developer can step outside the visual tools.
Performance. The company says Spectra has "Zero Bloat, No Dependencies": fewer external scripts, a JIT markup compiler that loads assets only for the blocks used on a page, and components built on React. It claims you can "Score 100% in CWV," that is, Core Web Vitals, and says schema support helps SEO. A user review on the home page praises the option to enable only the blocks you use and mentions "Occasional bugs."
ZipAI. The ZipAI page describes an assistant inside the WordPress dashboard. You describe your business and it builds a complete site with pages, copy, images and headers as editable Spectra blocks; new pages inherit the site's colors, spacing and tone; it can update global styles, CSS and scripts, run a site health check that scans for issues and suggests fixes, and clear out unused assets and stale content. You can "Build and edit in whatever language you're comfortable with." Its FAQ says content generation produces content "in various tones and lengths," that code generation needs no coding skills, and that the generated content is SEO-friendly, while advising you to review it for your own keywords. On data security the FAQ says ZipAI uses encryption protocols and follows industry practices to protect your data against unauthorized access.
Integrations. The home page says Spectra connects with the Astra theme, SureForms, SureCart "and many others." The pricing page lists "Deep Integrations" with WooCommerce, SureCart, LearnDash, Gravity Forms and Yoast SEO, and its FAQ says Spectra blocks are compatible with all themes and plugins, though optimized for Astra.
Plans and prices the pages state
The free Spectra plugin is a download from the pricing page. Paid plans come annual or lifetime, in USD, with introductory pricing where "all renewals are at full price":
| Plan | Annual | Lifetime | Sites | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Spectra Pro | $69/year | $319 one-time | 3 | | Essential Toolkit + AI | $199 first year, renews at $299 | $549 one-time | 10 | | Business Toolkit + AI | $279 first year, renews at $429 | $799 one-time | 1000 |
Essential Toolkit + AI adds Astra Pro, premium Starter Templates, Ultimate Addons for Elementor and the AI Platform with 5 Blueprint sites and 5 Sandbox sites, plus 2 hosted websites and a free domain for the first year (up to $14 value). Business Toolkit + AI raises that to 20 Blueprint and 20 Sandbox sites and 5 hosted websites, and adds SureForms Agency, the AI Site Planner, which turns a brief into a shareable visual wireframe, and 24/7 VIP support. The FAQ says every activation counts toward the site limit, including localhost, staging and test sites.
ZipAI has its own pricing on its page: Standard with 200,000 credits a year, billed at $39 a year, and Ultimate with 800,000 credits a year, billed at $99 a year.
There is no free Pro trial; the FAQ points to a 14-day refund guarantee instead. Payments run through Paddle as merchant of record, by card or PayPal. If a license lapses, the plugin keeps working but updates and one-on-one support stop. Support is by email and does not cover design or customization requests.
On reach, the pricing page claims a "1M+ User Community" and a 4.7 overall satisfaction rating "Based on 1700+ reviews," and the home page says Brainstorm Force products together power 12,496,717 websites. The docs hold 38 articles on Spectra blocks, 41 on the Spectra One theme and 100 on Spectra Legacy, plus WordPress Academy video courses.
Who it suits and who it does not
Spectra suits a WordPress user who wants to stay in the native block editor but needs more than core blocks: a freelancer building client sites from templates, a small business owner who wants ZipAI to draft a first site, or an agency that values the 1000-site Business plan, blueprints and sandboxes. Dynamic content from ACF, Pods and Meta Box makes it workable for content-driven sites, not just brochure pages.
Two caveats. Spectra is WordPress-only, so it does not help a team on another CMS. And the paid toolkits bundle products such as Astra Pro, Ultimate Addons for Elementor and SureForms, so a buyer who only wants the builder will find Spectra Pro on its own the closer fit, while introductory annual prices step up at renewal.
