What Gupshup is

Gupshup is a conversational AI platform for marketing, commerce and support automation, aimed at companies that run customer conversations across WhatsApp, RCS, SMS and voice. It is closer to an enterprise messaging cloud than to a single chatbot tool, and the company calls its product line the Gupshup Conversation Cloud. The site says it is "trusted by 50,000+ customers in 130+ countries" and handles "120 Billion+ messages annually". Those are the company's claims. The About page says Gupshup was born in India, has supported businesses since 2014, has a 900-strong team across 12 global offices (India, Indonesia, Colombia, Mexico, the USA, West Africa, Dubai and Brazil), and is led by co-founder and CEO Beerud Sheth. The same site is served from gupshup.ai and gupshup.io.

What you build and how

Conversational journeys. The Conversation Builder is described as a way to "easily build, deploy, and manage intelligent, multichannel journeys." In the company's WhatsApp Business API guide, the equivalent tool is called the bot studio, which lets brands "build automated user flow journeys with no-code visual builder." The same guide says brands can combine these journeys with GPT-3 models.

AI agents. Gupshup's headline offer is AI agents "for every customer conversation", which the site describes as industry-trained and customizable. The use-case page opens with "Got a task? We've got an AI Agent for that" and talks about expanding sales reach through WhatsApp, RCS and SMS. It lists assisted sales, account support and service, product enquiries, assisted shopping on WhatsApp and a virtual enquiry assistant. The goals named are lead generation, driving sales and personalized support. The site's banner also invites early access to a product called Gupshup Superagent. An ACE LLM, listed as a fine-tuned large language model for your industry, sits beside the agents, and the company announced industry-trained, multimodal AI agents in February 2025. For people on the support floor, Agent Assist is described as supporting human agents so they "support better and sell more", and the WhatsApp guide mentions routing a chat to a live agent through it.

Campaigns. Campaign Manager is for automating and optimizing multichannel campaigns for high engagement and conversions. For WhatsApp, the guide says brands can broadcast to millions of customers using pre-approved templates and track engagement and click-through rate at campaign level on a dashboard. An AI Campaign CoPilot is listed for copywriting, design and campaign optimization. Click 2 Engage WhatsApp QR Codes, free from a generator page, send people into a WhatsApp chat when scanned and open with a pre-programmed welcome message, with no need to save your number first.

Channels. WhatsApp runs on the WhatsApp Business API, and the guide says Gupshup can help a brand get access in less than 24 hours and assists with green tick verification. RCS Business Messaging is offered for brands that want rich messages that stand out in the messaging inbox. The use-case page also names SMS. The guide describes Gupshup as a Meta-approved Business Service Provider and walks through onboarding: you verify your legal business name and address with Meta, then give Gupshup your Facebook Business Manager ID, a verified phone number and a display name, and the platform takes it from there. It notes that the green tick badge is not open to every business, and that businesses sending at least 500 messages a day with an international brand presence are more likely to receive it. Proactive notifications need customer opt-in plus an approved message template, and the guide warns that templates with errors or sales-oriented language get rejected. Voice is pitched as a way to deflect callers to digital channels, raise live agent productivity and lower contact center costs.

Integrations and security. The company lists 500+ integrations for support, payments, CRM and commerce, which it says helps you go to market faster. A dedicated Enterprise Security page covers application security, platform security, data security and security compliance. It sets out principles of confidentiality, integrity, availability and compliance, and says the compliance team aligns internal policies with "standard control frameworks and regulations"; the page text does not name a specific certification.

Content. The site publishes guides, e-books, webinars, 40 customer stories, 12 PDF guides and 10 webinars, a WhatsApp chat widget generator and a developers section.

The evidence from the pages

The site publishes no prices; the calls to action are "Request a demo" and "Lets talk", so pricing is a conversation with sales.

The company's figures show the scale it claims:

  • The home page cites 50,000+ customers in 130+ countries and 120 billion messages a year.
  • The About page claims up to 2x higher engagement rates compared with traditional channels and up to 60% lower support costs.
  • A press item dated April 15, 2025 says the Conversation Cloud and WhatsApp drove 270% ROI for customers, based on a Total Economic Impact study.
  • A press item dated July 23, 2025 says the company raised $60 Mn+ for global expansion.
  • A case study in a festive-season guide says Tata CLiQ saw $500K in sales in one month attributed to WhatsApp and 10x ROI over email, in-app push and SMS, and that customers were 1.7x more likely to purchase when using WhatsApp.
  • A QR code page says Gupshup was awarded Meta's Partner of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, with exclusive beta access to new WhatsApp features; the About page lists Partner of the Year for 2023, 2024 and 2026, a Juniper OTT messaging leader mention for 2024, a feature in a Gartner market guide for conversational AI and an AI top 50 list for 2023.

These come from the vendor's own marketing and are not independent measurements. The studies and case figures show what the company chooses to publish, not what a typical customer will see.

Who it suits and who it does not

Gupshup suits a company that wants one vendor for WhatsApp, RCS, SMS and voice, with AI agents, a journey builder and a human-agent layer on top. A large retailer like Tata CLiQ, whose festive-season results the company publishes, shows the kind of buyer it serves. The 500+ integrations for support, payments, CRM and commerce, and the developers section, give an IT team a route to connect it to existing systems. Industry-trained agents and the ACE LLM are also aimed at buyers who want a model tuned to their vertical rather than a generic one. The enterprise security page and the Meta partner awards give a procurement team a starting point.

It is a poor match for a solo founder who wants to publish a first FAQ bot this afternoon: every path on the site leads to a demo request, so you start with a sales call. The pages are written for large programs that span several channels, teams and countries, and a small business running one WhatsApp number may find the breadth of the Conversation Cloud more than it needs.
