What Octane AI is
Octane AI is a no-code quiz builder made for Shopify stores. Its site calls it "The #1 product quiz platform for Shopify" and says it is "Trusted by 5,000+ merchants worldwide." The reader it serves is a store owner or an ecommerce marketing team that wants shoppers to answer a few questions, land on a product recommendation, and leave an email or phone number along the way. The company describes the product as an AI-powered quiz platform that "turns Shopify browsers into buyers" and says it has influenced "$1B+ in revenue." Those are the company's own figures.
What you build and how
You build a product quiz, and the builder starts from a prompt. The AI quiz generator takes a plain-English description and returns a draft. The site's own example prompt is "Create a skincare quiz for my beauty brand. I sell serums, moisturizers, and cleansers. Focus on skin type and concerns." The draft that comes back has 4 questions on skin type, main concerns, price range and morning or evening routine. The company lists 6 things the draft includes: questions written for your product category, answer options meant to segment customers, recommendation logic that connects answers to your catalog, a question order, a results page template for personalized product recommendations, and full editability. Everything stays editable, so you adjust questions, styling and logic in a visual editor before you publish.
The data layer is your Shopify catalog. The site describes "product matching rules that connect quiz answers to your catalog," so a shopper who finishes a quiz sees products you already sell. The company positions the quiz as a zero-party data tool: you ask shoppers for preferences, goals and interests directly, and the site says this moves "beyond cookies and third-party data." The AI side goes past drafting. The site lists AI-generated customer attributes, AI-generated copy, and an image analysis feature for photo-based shade matching. The company calls its engine CORE-1 AI and says it "learns from every interaction to improve recommendations over time."
The logic is the answer-to-product mapping, plus what happens to the data afterward. Klaviyo is the integration the site pushes hardest, labeling it "Our most-used integration." Quiz answers sync to Klaviyo in real time. You can map any quiz answer to a profile property, use a quiz-finished trigger to start a flow, and build segments from answers. The site's example flow sends an email titled "Your Results" 10 minutes after the quiz is completed, with the shopper's skin type and concerns filled in from their answers. The company says it connects with "Klaviyo, Attentive, Shopify, Recharge, and 50+ other tools," its integration strip adds Zapier, GA4, Postscript, Gorgias and Yotpo, and the FAQ says all integrations sync data in real time.
For the forms reader, the relevant part is lead capture. The site lists a lead generation use case: "Capture email and SMS opt-ins with interactive quizzes that provide real value in exchange for contact information." Pop-ups and opt-ins are part of the Basic plan, and the homepage reports a 42% average email opt-in rate. The quiz works as a longer, friendlier form that asks questions one at a time. The site gives industry starting points: beauty and cosmetics (shade matching and routine builders), skincare (skin type analysis and regimens), fashion and apparel (size finders and style quizzes), supplements (health goal matching), and food and beverage (taste profiles and subscriptions).
Design control is split by plan. The Plus plan adds custom CSS and custom branding, which is what a larger brand needs to match its store theme closely. Plus also adds A/B testing and advanced analytics, while the Basic plan includes basic analytics and carries the Octane AI logo. On the results side, CORE-1 powers Smart Products, which picks products in real time, Smart Copy for personalized results page copy, and Smart Properties, the AI-generated customer attributes that flow on to your marketing tools.
Beyond the classic recommendation quiz, the home page lays out use cases with the company's own result figures. Shade matching uses photo analysis and undertone detection, credited with 3x fewer returns. AM/PM routine builders are credited with a 45% AOV lift. Size finders based on measurements and body type are credited with 60% less returns. Gift finders work by recipient, occasion and budget, and single product quizzes personalize the pitch for one hero product, credited with 32% more conversion.
The site pitches speed. It contrasts "Traditional Quiz Builders" at "2-4 hours" average time to launch with the AI builder at "5 minutes." It also says "Build quizzes 10x faster." The FAQ is more modest: "Most brands launch their first quiz within a few hours." Both are vendor claims. The company also states that "no coding required."
The evidence from the pages
Pricing is published and credit-based. The pricing section says "Pay only for quiz engagements and AI usage," and explains that "1 credit = 1 quiz engagement," with AI features using additional credits.
- Octane AI Basic costs $50 a month, or $43 a month billed yearly (15% saving). It includes 400 credits and is "Limited to two quizzes." It covers pop-ups and opt-ins, Klaviyo and Shopify sync, AI features, basic analytics and email support.
- Octane AI Plus costs $200 a month, or $170 a month billed yearly. It includes 2,200 credits, unlimited quizzes, A/B testing, advanced analytics, more credits for AI usage, custom CSS, custom branding and enhanced integrations. The site marks it "Most Popular."
- Octane AI Enterprise & Unlimited starts at $500+ a month, or $425+ a month billed yearly, with "7,250+ credits or unlimited." It adds a dedicated Account Manager, quiz strategy and optimization guidance, email flow blueprints, custom onboarding and monthly strategy calls.
Below the plans, the site says plans scale with usage and that brands needing more credits can contact the company for custom pricing. The FAQ says "We offer a 14-day free trial on all plans," and the site also offers a demo booking. There is no free plan listed, only the trial.
For proof, the site publishes customer stories and headline numbers. The homepage shows a 4.9 rating next to "5,000+ Shopify stores," along with "42% avg email opt-in," "+28% Conversion" and "+35% AOV Lift." Jones Road Beauty is described as "$100M in revenue with Octane AI," with more than 800,000 subscribers from the quiz and more than 80% of its marketing list coming from it. Its CEO, Cody Plofker, is quoted saying the incremental impact "is pretty amazing." Bambu Earth is described as making over $10M a year from its quiz strategy, sending 100% of ad traffic to the quiz, which syncs with Klaviyo and Recart. Its founder, Marcus Shim, says, "The faster the cycle time on quiz improvements, the faster I can outrun our competitors and scale our business better." These are the company's published stories, not independent audits.
The footer links a quiz playbook, case studies, a blog, a partners page, an Our Team page and a security page. The Enterprise tier is pitched as "Like having a quiz agency on your team", with a dedicated expert who handles everything from quiz strategy to Klaviyo flow setup.
Who it suits and who it does not
Octane AI suits a Shopify merchant with a catalog where a short quiz can steer a shopper: skincare, beauty, apparel, supplements, food. A small brand can start on Basic with 2 quizzes and 400 credits, then move to Plus once it wants unlimited quizzes and A/B testing. A marketing team already running Klaviyo gets the most obvious fit, because quiz answers become profile properties and flow triggers. Larger brands that want hands-on help can use the Enterprise tier's dedicated Account Manager and monthly strategy calls.
The caveats are real. It is built for Shopify ("Built for Shopify" sits in the footer), so it serves stores on that platform. Pricing scales with quiz engagements and AI use, so a high-traffic quiz can burn through a plan's credits, and the Basic plan's 2-quiz limit is tight for a store with several product lines. There is no free plan, only the trial. It is a quiz and lead capture tool for product recommendation, not a general form builder or a way to deliver advice from your own content.
