Base44 is an AI platform for building apps, websites, internal tools and AI agents by describing them in plain language, with no coding experience needed. Its own words: "an AI platform for building fully functioning apps in minutes." The homepage headline is "Every builder needs a base". The readers it speaks to are founders with a product idea, operations teams that need a back-office tool, and larger organizations that its Enterprise tier targets. The site's copyright line reads Wix.com Ltd., and the same product is served from base44.com and base44.app.

The site calls its method vibe coding. You describe an idea "as a rough thought or a detailed spec," and Base44 "generates the code, structure, design and logic," after which you keep iterating by chatting with the AI until it works the way you want.

What you build and how

Apps. The homepage says an app comes with "backend, auth, payments, and hosting already built in," with "No setup, no engineers, no waiting." The AI app builder page makes the distinction it cares about: "A prototype shows the idea. A real app runs the workflow." It lists what an app includes: screens, data, backend logic, authentication, permissions, integrations and deployment, from one platform. You define what happens when users submit forms, update records or move through a workflow, and control who can view, use, edit or manage the app, whether teammates, clients or customers. Apps are web-based and mobile-responsive, so the same app works on phones, tablets and desktops. The company's blog adds built-in versioning: every change made through the chat or the editor is stored as a new version you can compare and roll back to.

Design and collaboration. Base44 says its designs "look good before you change a thing." You set colors and fonts for a whole app from one place, ask for redesign options and see previews before the AI changes anything, generate videos from a description for hero sections or onboarding screens, and work with teammates on a board where you can see every page, leave notes, sketch ideas and send instructions to the AI. Paid plans add in-app code edits for anyone who wants to adjust the generated code directly.

Websites. Base44 positions a website as another thing you describe: "Build a website for any need. AI-generated design, custom domain, built-in SEO tools, ready to go live from day one." The FAQ lists business sites and landing pages, portfolios, online stores with product pages and checkout, and internal tools and client portals. Built-in hosting and custom domain support mean publishing takes one click.

Marketing after launch. The platform keeps going after you publish. An SEO/GEO dashboard scans the site for visibility on Google, ChatGPT, Gemini and more, produces a prioritized fix list and lets the AI apply the fixes. A social presence feature reads what you built, picks social platforms and drafts posts in your voice, and app analytics track traffic, sales and the actions you choose to measure.

Internal tools. The company's guide is most specific here. Its steps for building an internal tool without coding: define the workflow it fixes, map its data, describe the tool to the AI app builder, connect your records, test it with your team and go live. The guide says the AI app builder turns the description "into a real app with a database, logins and permissions already wired in," and that the first working version can be live the same day. The reason given for building custom rather than buying generic: "Your approval flow has four steps and one exception nobody ever wrote down."

Agents. Superagents are AI agents "that automate workflows, manage data and connect to your tools." The FAQ describes a Superagent as the assistant running alongside your app, connecting to your inbox, calendar and tools to handle tasks, and the homepage pitches it as a 24/7 agent that "works while you sleep."

Integrations. The FAQ says Base44 connects to Google Calendar, Gmail, Slack, Notion, HubSpot, Salesforce "and more," and to any external service via API, with email sending, data management and AI-generated content built in. The AI app builder page describes one-click integrations for email, payments, databases and forms, and highlights HubSpot for CRM data and Slack for notifications.

Payments and security. The homepage lists "Get paid directly through Base44" and "Enterprise-grade security." The FAQ says user management and authentication are built in, "using industry-standard encryption and security practices", and the AI app builder page offers secure team access with SSO.

Ownership. The FAQ answers directly: everything you build on Base44 belongs to you, Base44 makes no claims of ownership over your app, its content or its data, and you are free to use, modify, share or monetize it.

Plans, credits and proof

Base44 has a free plan at $0 a month, with no credit card needed. It covers all core features, built-in integrations, the authentication system and database functionality, and "includes monthly credits to build and test your first apps." Paid plans start at $16 a month billed annually and add more credits, more features and more support, plus unlimited apps, in-app code edits and a connected domain. The company's blog lists the paid tiers at annual rates, with monthly billing also available: Starter at $16 a month ("Build out your first apps for personal projects"), Builder at $40 a month ("Tools for professional app development"), Pro at $80 a month for complex apps and advanced tools, and Enterprise at custom pricing, "Built for large orgs needing flexibility, scale and governance."

Credits power AI generation: every build, change or refinement uses them, and complex builds and long iteration cycles use more, so the FAQ suggests planning a build in clear phases. You check the balance in the account dashboard.

The homepage features Yoav Hornung, founder of Gift My Book, quoted as saying "It took about a week to come up with a product that works end-to-end," with 1 week to launch, $1M ARR in 3 months and 6-8% conversion. Those are one company's results. The AI app builder page says "thousands of businesses" already use Base44 to run real operations. Support resources include docs and FAQs, a community, a roadmap, a changelog, a status page, a feature request board, a Higher Ed program and a "Hire a Partner" directory.

Who it suits and who it does not

Base44 suits a founder who wants a working product with accounts, payments and a database fast, an operations team replacing a spreadsheet with a real tool for its own process, and a small business that wants a site, an app and its marketing from the same place. The Enterprise tier and SSO are there for organizations that need governance.

Pricing runs on credits, so the fair test is to build one real tool on the free plan and see how far the monthly credits go. Apps run as responsive web apps rather than store-listed native apps, which matters to a team that needs an App Store presence.
