Activepieces builds workflows from “pieces,” prebuilt connectors for common apps, chained together with branching, loops, and conditional logic on a visual canvas that leans closer to Zapier’s approachability than n8n’s more technical diagram style. Newer additions lean into AI workflows, letting a step call a language model or run an agent-style task alongside the usual data-moving actions.
Self-hosting is free and open source under a fair-use license, with a managed cloud plan priced by usage for teams that skip running their own server. Because it’s open source, self-hosted teams keep full control of their workflow data and credentials, a real lock-in advantage over the closed cloud-only tools in this category. The ceiling is a smaller integration catalog than Zapier’s mature marketplace, and the project is younger, so some connectors and edge cases are less battle-tested. It fits smaller teams who want an approachable, Zapier-style builder they can self-host without n8n’s steeper technical curve.
