Ontraport is an all-in-one CRM and business automation platform designed for small and mid-sized businesses. The company says it was founded in 2006 in Santa Barbara, California. This entry covers its no-code directory website builder, which sits inside a platform built mainly around contacts, sales and marketing. The reader it fits is a business owner or ops team that wants a directory, a customer portal or a membership site connected to the CRM it already depends on.

What you build and how

The directory page says you can "create a listing website that updates in real-time, delivers a tailored experience and fits your specific vision". The building block is a drag-and-drop page builder, which the company calls a no-code page builder that is easy for beginners and convenient for developers. Search and filter tools help visitors find listings, and the page says you simply drag and drop them onto the page. Each listing carries custom fields, so you can show contact details, event dates, specialties, category designations, popularity or anything else you want. A form builder lets members add and adjust their own listings by filling out a form, so you are not making every update by hand. The page names the kinds of listing sites customers build: real estate listings, employee directories, review sites, school directories, restaurant guides, job listings, service provider listings, class offerings, event listings, product catalogs, community directories and rental listings.

Because the directory runs on the same system as the rest of the business, the page ties it to the rest of the platform. Memberships add members-only content, with automation handling follow-up and confirmation emails, login and password management and credit card updates. Payments let you charge for access, with order forms, payment processing and transactional emails in the same place. Personalization shows visitors listings matched to their interests and site activity. Tracking and reporting cover traffic sources, clicks, site activity, popular listings and conversions in real time.

The company's other examples of what to build are a business directory, a travel guide and a knowledge base, "and anything else you dream up". It adds that Ontraport is more than a directory builder, and that the same tools can produce customer portals, community forums, blogs and courses. The about page extends the list to websites, web applications, membership sites and client portals. On the question of developers, the FAQ answers "Nope", and promises "all the power of a site built with custom code and developers without all the complexity, time and extra costs".

The CRM side is the reason to pick Ontraport over a stand-alone directory tool, and it covers the crm-builders category. The CRM page argues that most CRM systems for mid-sized enterprises make it impossible to store, display and work with data in a sensible way, and calls Ontraport "the most flexible, customizable platform on the market". Its feature list includes the following.

  • Segmenting and organizing contacts.
  • Smart pipelines.
  • Self-scheduling with a calendar.
  • Task automation.
  • Lead scoring and routing.
  • A unified contact history.
  • A mobile app.

The CRM page says the platform automatically captures every page visit, link click, form fill-out and purchase, plus everything said on a sales call. For sales teams it describes designing a process and putting the most important next task front and center, with the tedious follow-up automated. Tasks can be sent to team members from automated campaigns, used for sales calls, onboarding or any internal process, and task outcomes drive what happens next. The page's example is a call with no answer that triggers a follow-up campaign. Internal forms capture information in the task completion process.

Marketing is in the same system. The CRM page calls it a built-in enterprise-grade marketing platform, so marketing messaging and sales processes stay in sync. The homepage tabs name Marketing Automation, Sales, CMS, Email and SMS, CRM, Pages and Forms, Payments and Support, which gives a picture of the whole platform: pages, forms, email, text messages and payments next to the CRM. The support page adds professionally designed landing pages, emails and automated campaigns as templates.

For AI, the homepage lists AI content generation, AI embedded in automation and an Ontraport MCP server under an "Available now" label, then "Chat with your data + in-app answers" as arriving this summer and "Describe it. Ontraport builds it." as coming next. Its FAQ confirms that Ontraport has AI features and describes an AI Assistant.

The evidence from the pages

The pricing page says all plans start with a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, and that you can upgrade inside the platform before the trial ends. If you do not upgrade, the company says you do not need to cancel and will not be charged. There is no long-term contract: you can pay monthly or annually, and an annual subscription commits you for the year with two months free. The pricing page itself lists no plan prices; its FAQ sends anyone unsure which plan fits to the business solutions team. It also says that if you cancel within the first 30 days after signing up, the company will refund your payment completely.

On setup, the pricing FAQ describes a Done-with-you Setup and Training Package that offers a personalized plan and one-on-one setup support, and the navigation lists migration and setup, VIP support and onboarding, and done-for-you services. Ontraport University is described as a free library of 150+ videos. The directory page also lists free online video lessons, an active Facebook user community, support a chat away, and templates for all page types.

For integrations, the homepage FAQ says Ontraport connects with many popular business applications, including shopping carts, payment gateways, analytics tools and communication platforms, and with Zapier for syncing with thousands of other apps. The integrations page groups apps by marketing, ecommerce, accounting, memberships and business operations. It describes an open API: you obtain an APP ID and API Key from the Administration tab, use the interactive API documentation center, and can request a free Sandbox account for testing. The company says it cannot teach you to program against the API but will help with a specific API call.

Support channels include a discovery call, live chat and email, and the pages describe 7-day-a-week chat support. A testimonial on the support page from Matt Jull of MattJull.com says, "I will never trade Ontraport for another platform." The about page says Ontraport serves thousands of businesses across more than 60 countries.

Who it suits

It suits a small or mid-sized business that has outgrown starter tools but feels enterprise software is overkill, which is how the homepage positions it. A business that wants a directory or portal tied to contact records, email and payments gets that in one system. An ops team can use task outcomes and follow-up campaigns instead of juggling separate tools, and an agency can use the open API and sandbox for client work.

The honest limit is focus. The directory builder is one feature of a CRM platform, so a person who only wants a standalone listings site is buying more than they need. No listing limit or plan price is published, so sizing a large directory means talking to sales. Finally, some of the AI items on the homepage are labeled as coming this summer or next, so plan around the features marked available now.
