What Directbase is

Directbase is a no-code directory website builder. Its home page calls it a tool to "build, customize, and monetize professional directory websites, without writing a single line of code". The reader it is written for is a professional or small business owner who wants to run a listings site and earn from it, most plainly by charging businesses to be listed. The company says you can build a directory in minutes, and plan prices are printed on the home page. A banner on the home page announces that the company joined Stripe Climate, and the footer lists partner products from the same makers, including Super Web Scraper, AI Web Scraper and Google Maps Scraper, which suit people who gather listing data before importing it.

What you build and how

The product is a hosted directory site plus an admin panel. You do not design pages on a canvas. You configure a directory: its categories, its branding, its domain and its pricing, and then listings arrive either from you, from bulk import or from people who submit and pay. The home page lists the pieces under "All the tools you need", and each one maps to something a directory owner has to decide.

The admin panel is described as a place to manage listings, customize settings and monitor performance in one place. Its listed parts are easy listing management, customizable categories, an order management dashboard and a submission approval system. The order dashboard matters because paid submissions create orders, so one screen holds both the content and the money side. Categories are the backbone of any directory, and the site says they are customizable, with bulk import supporting categories as well.

Branding is covered by a custom logo upload, a custom site icon, and a custom site title and description. The company says you can customize every aspect of the site's appearance to match your brand identity, and notes that new themes are coming soon, which tells you the design choices today are narrower than a general website builder offers. There is also a dark mode, with a toggle, a customizable dark theme, improved contrast, and an optional dark mode for listings.

Domains are handled for you. You can connect your own domain or use a subdomain the company provides. The site says all setups come with automatic SSL certificates, are optimized for search engines, and include free SSL certificates, custom domain support, automatic DNS setup and SEO-friendly URLs. For an SEO-driven directory the URL structure and indexing basics matter, and these are the items the company chooses to name.

Money is the reason the product exists. A section called Paid submission says you can monetize your directory by accepting paid submissions, set up flexible payment options and automate the listing approval process. It names a Stripe integration, custom payment branding, detailed payment reporting and easy order management. A second section, Custom pricing, covers flexible pricing plans with different rates for various listing types, multiple pricing tiers, custom pricing tables, day-one monetization and promotional pricing options. In practice a directory owner can price one listing type differently from another and run a promotion, with the pricing table shown to submitters customized to match.

For a directory that already has data there is a CSV and Excel import for adding listings in bulk, with customizable import templates for quick data entry. That helps if you are moving a spreadsheet or another directory into Directbase rather than entering each listing by hand, and the resources menu has dedicated CSV to Directory and Excel to Directory pages for that route. The company's post on turning a spreadsheet into an app lists the uses it has in mind: niche product or SaaS directories, local business or service directories with paid listings and premium profiles, event or membership platforms that manage submissions and approvals, and portfolio showcases for creators and agencies.

The multi-site angle is a differentiator. The home page says you can create unlimited directory sites from a single dashboard, with independent site analytics and individual site customization for each, and "no limits on the number of sites you can create". The plan section qualifies this: the Starter plan includes 1 directory and the Growth plan includes unlimited directories. The company's blog repeats the points about unlimited directory creation and independent analytics per directory.

The showcase section shows what people have built. OSS Gallery is a crowdsourced list of open-source projects. Asterism Software is described as acquiring, managing and building SaaS companies. Spark Tools is a launch platform for AI agents. These are the company's chosen examples, and they lean toward software and startup directories.

Plans, limits and claims

The pricing is stated on the home page. The Starter plan is $19 a month and includes 1 directory. The Growth plan is $39 a month and includes unlimited directories. The FAQ says both plans come with a 7-day free trial and include features like unlimited listings, custom domains and payment processing, and says you are only charged if you continue after the trial. It also says all plans include unlimited listings, custom domain support and the ability to accept payments. The plan cards list the same items on both tiers: unlimited listings, custom domains, accepting payments, removing the watermark, unlimited blogs, and bulk import from CSV or Excel. The only difference printed between them is the number of directories, and the Growth plan carries the Most Popular label.

There is a small wrinkle in how the offer is worded. The pricing heading says "Start for free, upgrade when you need. No credit card required", while the plan cards and FAQ describe a 7-day trial for both paid plans. The company's blog posts speak of a free tier, but the home page plan cards show the trial, so treat the free offer as the trial. The home page also lists "usage-based pricing" under the multi-site feature, beside the fixed monthly plan prices.

Integrations are the ones the home page states: Stripe for payments, plus custom domains with automatic DNS setup and SSL handled by the platform. The company also runs a blog with articles such as "Top 5 No-Code Directory Builders for Free", published April 8, 2025, which repeats that the platform supports unlimited directory creation, SEO-friendly URLs, custom domains and monetization through Stripe and flexible payment options. Contact runs through an email link in the footer.

Who it suits and who it does not

Directbase suits a person who wants a directory as a small online business: a niche list of tools, projects or providers where businesses pay to be included. At $19 a month for 1 directory and $39 for unlimited directories, the entry price is low, and the 7-day trial lets a founder test the paid submission flow before paying. Someone who will run several niche directories, one per topic or market, gets the most from the Growth plan. Importing a spreadsheet gets an existing list online quickly.

It is not a general site or app builder. The product is built around directory features, with new themes still coming, so a team that wants a heavily designed marketing site, member accounts, workflows or a custom data model will find a narrower tool than it needs. Its integrations center on Stripe, so a developer who wants to wire the directory into other systems has less to work with than on a general platform. Moderation runs through the submission approval system, which fits one owner or a small team reviewing paid listings before they go live.
