What DataBrain is
DataBrain is an embedded analytics platform, and its home page describes it as "an AI-powered embedded analytics platform for B2B SaaS product and engineering teams." It is for software companies that want to put dashboards, reports and natural-language analytics inside their own product for their customers, rather than for a business team building internal reports. The company says every AI answer is grounded in a governed semantic layer, and that DataBrain "stores metadata only; queries run directly against your warehouse." The footer names the company as Databrain Labs, Inc., at an address on Market Street in San Francisco.
What you build and how
What you build is customer-facing analytics. The home page lists the pieces as white-label dashboards, governed AI, multi-tenant security and developer SDKs, "built for multi-tenant SaaS and ready to embed in 2-4 weeks." It lays the work out in 4 steps.
Connect your data. DataBrain plugs into your warehouse with read-only access, with no pipelines to build. The FAQ names Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, Postgres, MySQL, spreadsheets and web APIs, and the source picker on the home page also shows ClickHouse. New sources are added from the UI, and the company says your data never leaves your environment.
Build governed metrics once. The semantic layer is where definitions live, built with a Visual Builder, Custom SQL or an AI Chat mode. Every dashboard, AI answer and report reads from the same definitions, and metrics are versioned and auditable. According to the FAQ, "every query is scoped by a tenant key you define once in the semantic layer," so a customer at one tenant cannot see another tenant's data "regardless of how your product routes requests."
Design customer-facing dashboards. A low-code builder offers drag-and-drop charts, filters, drill-downs and exports, plus KPI blocks and custom SDK blocks. Dashboards support scheduled reports, and reusable templates can be saved per customer segment. White-labeling covers custom fonts, color palettes, light and dark themes and SDK styling, so the dashboard looks like the host product. The company's Dashboard Gallery shows examples.
Ship with one snippet. Embedding is done with code, which makes DataBrain a developer-facing product despite the visual builder. The FAQ says DataBrain ships SDKs for React, Angular, Vue and Next.js, plus iframe and web-component options, and the home page also shows Svelte and lists REST APIs. You pass a tenant-scoped token, a dashboard ID and an optional theme to the dbn-dashboard component from the @databrainhq/plugin package. SSO and JWT are handled by the SDK, so your customers log in through your existing auth flow.
End users can build too. The FAQ says your customers "can build reports, filter dashboards, and define their own metrics inside your product, with every query scoped to their own tenant data", and that you set how much self-service each role gets, from read-only dashboards to a full drag-and-drop builder and natural-language queries. The AI turns a plain-English question into generated, read-only SQL scoped to the requesting tenant, shows the reasoning, and returns an answer grounded in the semantic model. DataBrain's MCP server exposes the same governed model to AI agents and MCP clients, so agents query through the same guardrails.
The home page also pitches the result as a product line: package dashboards, self-service reporting and governed AI as a billable analytics tier, keep customers inside your product for their answers, and personalize access by tenant and role. Solution pages cover logistics, financial, HR, procurement, healthcare, supply chain, manufacturing and media analytics.
What the company's site says about plans, security and customers
Pricing. The FAQ says pricing is "flat and based on features, not per-seat", and that "The Growth plan starts at $999/month and includes multi-tenancy, unlimited seats, unlimited embedded dashboards, and one data source." It points to a pricing page for the full plan comparison and to a demo for a tailored quote. A cost calculator sits in the resources menu.
Timeline. The FAQ breaks the 2-4 weeks down: connect the warehouse in minutes, define metrics in 1-3 days, build dashboard templates in 1-3 days, then embed with one snippet.
Security. The home page lists "SOC 2 Type II", "ISO 27001 Certified", "HIPAA Compliant", "GDPR Compliant" and "CCPA Supported". Under those sit tenant isolation, row-level security "enforced at the query layer, not in application code", SSO and JWT, audit logs retained per policy and protected against tampering, data residency by choice of cloud region, and granular access control over datasets, metrics and features.
Hosting. There are 2 modes with the same feature set. In the managed cloud, "We run the control plane and data plane", with zero ops, auto-scaling and a 99.5% uptime SLA, version upgrades and patching handled by DataBrain and deployment across multiple availability zones. On-Prem "Runs entirely inside your VPC": the platform deploys into your own Kubernetes or ECS cluster with a license key, supports air-gapped environments with no outbound internet, and is available on the Enterprise plan.
Customers. Case studies on the home page carry figures from the customers themselves. Ajay, CTO of Spendflo, says "We cut down on 6 months of work for our data analysts and saved around $300k by maintaining a smaller, more efficient team." Rohith S, CPO of SpotDraft, says DataBrain "helped us build out customer-facing reporting on the SpotDraft platform." Swami at Freightify says it "enabled anyone in the organization to create metrics and visualize data, even with minimal SQL knowledge." Evan Wade, co-founder of epochOS, mentions "AI features that let our mortgage brokers get insights through natural language."
Who it suits and who it does not
DataBrain suits a B2B SaaS team with engineers that wants customer-facing dashboards soon. Multi-tenant row-level security, white-label styling and SSO are part of the product rather than something to build, and the compliance list and VPC option will matter to a vendor selling into regulated buyers. A team already on a warehouse benefits most, since DataBrain queries it in place. A product manager who would otherwise queue a reporting module for a quarter will recognize the pitch.
It is not a tool for an internal reporting team building dashboards for its own staff. A founder with no engineer will hit the SDK-based embedding quickly: the low-code builder handles the dashboards, but the embed step still uses a snippet and a token from your backend. And with the entry price at $999 a month for one data source, a small product still finding its first customers is paying for tenancy it may not need yet.
