Netlify CMS is a Git-based CMS purpose-built for static site generators like Hugo, Jekyll, and Gatsby. It stores content as Markdown files in your Git repository, making it version-controlled and audit-able. The editorial interface is minimal but functional, designed to feel native to the static-site workflow.
It's ideal if you're already using a static site generator and Netlify hosting. The setup is lightweight (just a config file and a hosted editor) and there's no database to manage. It's less suitable for complex content structures or teams needing rich media handling, but for documentation, blogs, and marketing sites it's streamlined and cost-effective.
